Liþablót is the celebration of the Midsummer Solstice. This is the time when the Sun is at its height and the light of day at its longest. Many Pagans take this time to honor the Sun as the bringer of light and life to the Earth. Many cultures have Sun deities who are very important and powerful in their religion, and it is a universal force in human socieites. With this in mind, we take the time to worship the Sun at its most powerful before it begins to decline toward Winter. Hail to the Sun and Solstice!
Sunna is the Proto-Germanic goddess of the Sun. She is the daughter of Mundilfari in the Norse myths, and sister of the Moon. She rides a chariot in the sky, bearing the Sun across the day while being chased by a wolf which wishes to eat the Sun. She brings light and life to Earth with her powers. Many modern Pagans worshipher as a representative of the power of the Sun, and a life-giving deity. We will be honoring her in this role as she is at her height of power and light with the Solstice.
