Imbolc is the Irish name for the cross-quarter day that falls on February 1st. In some Slavic sources, this is called the Wolves' Festival. This holiday is celebrated in many different ways by many different Pagan traditions. We will be celebrating it with a rite to Dewana the huntress and ask her to bless Thunder Candles for each of us to have to protect our homes. We will be using the ADF Core Order of Ritual with a Slavic Hearth culture this year.
Dewana (Dev-ana) is the Slavic goddess of the hunt, wild animals, and the moon. She is similar to Roman Diana and Greek Artemis but is distinctly part of the Slavic tradition. She once tried and almost conquered all three worlds of the Slavic cosmos after which she was forced to marry the underworld god Veles. She is a powerful and strong goddess who is mistress of the hunt and patroness to animals. Her realm is strength and the primal instincts. She is also associated with the moon in modern Pagan circles. We will be honoring her in her role as Lady of the Thunder Candle that protects from harm and wards off dangers.
